OAP 14er Hike – Regis University

  • Posted on August 31, 2011 at 9:34 am

This past fall, a group of Regis University students embarked on a journey with the Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP) to climb one of the 54 peaks that are over 14000ft in elevation in Colorado. These ’14ers’ range in difficulty, but the many of them require no technical climbing gear, just a sturdy pair of shoes, a backpack with warm clothes and food, and plenty of water. A guidebook or topo map might be a wise choice too. The group got a few trails confused and never really made it anywhere near the peak, but it didn’t spoil the fun, and there was no lack of scenery along the way. OAP leads trips to students many times throughout the year, ranging from weekend hikes in the sand dunes to back country ski trips, and even a trip to the Grand Canyon over spring break. These trips are offered at a very low cost, and they also supply most of the gear (tents, sleeping bags, etc) if needed, making their programs fun and affordable for all.
