Daily talk in Shamla Part 2_Saeed’s story

In the beginning of June, Aida and her family temporarily moved from their grass hut to the Shamla or tent, that she is restoring for the Rashayda rebelleader: Mabruk Mubarak Al Saleem. She travelled to Kassala to attend a wedding by the end of May and returned after 10 days. She brought back some traditional leather bags that belong inside the tent, as Mabruk wants the tents to be complete. She also started to fabric a leather bag that is used by men to transport food and coffee-gear, as they migrate with their herds. Umm Ali, the former wife of Abu Nafe, and mother to Selma’s husband Ali, has come to advise and help Aida with the construction of the bag. Since Aida returned back from Kassala she receives daily help from two young Eritrean girls, who’s mother lives in the camp and has trouble with feeding her children. The children clean and wash for Aida and get food and some cloths in return. Fuzum, the coordinator of a local Eritrean NGO: Solidarity Committee, would rather see that they would attend his school. He fears that they might be harmed. Hameed, Aida’s husband feels sorry for the girls, but they don’t seem to mind themselves. As an old men purchases his runaway donkey, Saeed recounts a story that is told about his youth. The Hadendowa have always been the strongest opponents of the Rashaayda presence in Eastern Sudan, and the animosity between the two communities also comes across in Saeed’s story.
