Three by Train – an Amtrak Adventure – Introduction

  • Posted on July 29, 2011 at 11:13 pm

A documentary about two adults, one toddler, one train from Topeka, KS to Los Angles, CA -a 33 hour trip, three cameras and all that it takes to travel with a child. Using only Amtrak, public transportation, car sharing or human power while sight seeing Los Angles and attending VidCon 2011. Recently our travel plans were a bit more complicated and perhaps a bit more realistic. When we traveled, it is more like, one child, 2 duffel bags, 2 suit cases, a child’s backpack, a stroller, car seat, potty chair, pack and play crib, a laptop and a netbook, two cameras, small HD camcorder and a couple of Flip cameras. It is not as easy, but we do not let that dampen our spirits. Today our little one is three, so it is a bit easier to travel. This project will be using only only consumer grade or prosumer grade equipment available to the general public and families. Along the way we will be talking with the many different types of people aboard our Amtrak, finding out why they choose Amtrak, what it is that attracted them to train travel over other forms. Documenting train travel, those who travel by train and the challenges of traveling with a child. With your help we can make this project work even on a very limited budget. With your help, we can take this project to the next level. Visit: kck.st We have raised the money for lodging, meals, personal needs and most of the money for Amtrak. We are asking you to help us upgrade some equipment, pay for original music, color correction

Entry from: Borrowdale, United Kingdom Entry Title: “Adventure Weekend” Entry: “In keeping with the theme of being busy, last week was no different. Since I knew I was going away during the weekend, I had to spend most of my free time doing reading for all of my classes, as well as trying to find time to do all my daily things. The week itself wasn’t that exciting because most of my time was spent reading. However, on Wednesday night, we did have a two hour football practice (run by the players) followed up by some team bonding at the local pub. Thursday was spent doing some more reading since I didn’t have class, then I headed over to my friend Sam’s flat to spend the night. I met Sam the second day of orientation at Butler so me and him have become very close. Since he was going on the Adventure Weekend trip as well, I decided to spend the night at his place because he was closer to where we were leaving from. Friday morning was hectic. Time was moving way too fast and Zack (my other close friend from IFSA), Sam, and I were moving way too slow. We were told the buses were leaving the IFSA Butler office at 915am, and thats when we got into the tube station. We ran down the streets of Notting Hill, backpacks and duffel bags flying every which way, and miraculously made it before the buses left. The
