Entry from: Amborovy, Madagascar Entry Title: “Still stranded in Mahajanga/Amborovy” Entry: “Alright, we’re still here, waiting for the plane on Thursday (tomorrow now). Nearly getting acclimatised to the heat, and then it rains. It’s not supposed to, but last night we experienced a deluge as only you can above the Tropic of Capricorn. Cooled things down a treat, and it’s spitting again as I write. Finally coming to terms with the touts and drivers as well. Apparently a friendly toned barrage of Aussie slang confuses the hell out of them. Great for just walking past without seeming rude; a thumbs up and a ‘nah, she’ll be right thanks mate’ and they wander past you scratching their heads. Nice to turn the tables in a civilised way. LOL. Something that I haven’t mentioned are the colours here. From golden orange and purple sunsets, to the exotic fruits and plants, there are diamonds in the rough eveywhere. I say in the rough because this is an area in decline. The prevailing colours are brown and the sprinkled blue and white of plastic bags and discarded refuse. There is still a lot of construction going on, but it seems to be desperate rather than positive. The vendors and touts also have a note of desperation, the sounds of a people used to largesse and now staring at an ever decreasing source of
