Entry from: Siem Reap, Cambodia Entry Title: “What, What, Angkor Wat!!” Entry: “We arrived in Siem Reap after a painful 5 hour bus ride. We must be getting old because we remember the days, back in South America, when even a 24 hour bus ride was nothing. 5 months later and we’re crying over 5 hours and we even had A/C! The grey hair and Depends will be here before we know it…At the bus station a group of small beggar kids swarmed Charis trying to grab at her nuts…ahem, her jar of peanuts that were sitting on the side of her bag. The bus driver grabbed one little kid, gave him a smack and a pile drive…We’ve probably seen thousands of children begging throughout the journey, but these dirty Cambodian children, some of which were missing limbs, were perhaps the most heartbreaking. They weren’t working together, they were completely filthy, and they obviously received little respect in their society. One of the boys, about 7, had upgraded his beat-up rusty bike by adding home made saddle bags for filling up with bottles. At first we had to admit the ingenuity – it was a pretty good set-up probably allowing him to ride with 2 garbage bags full of bottles. Then we had to realize that this little dude should be converting his bike with riding pegs or lights, taking that bike over jumps, and
