Entry from: Chobe National Park, Botswana Entry Title: “Botswana – The main course (Hippoland)” Entry: “Feb 27th – Chobe National Park Chris the Safari driver picked us up this morning before sunrise for a drive around Chobe National Park. The park itself was the most picturesque one we visited in the whole of Africa. The section we drove in led us across the side of a hillside as the sun was rising, with the river flowing serenely below. We found the park abundant with plant and animal life. Highlights on this drive were the baboons piggybacking each other, the impala fighting, the eagles hunting, the jackals feeding on a dead elephant, the umbrella bird feeding, the meercats scooting around and the lions sunning themselves on the road. Amazing! Back in Kasane we found the town overrun by warthogs, they strolled around town in packs like dogs in a western city foraging for food. In the late afternoon we jumped on another boat (this time without free booze) for a nature criuse. Again Chobe delivered as we saw hundreds of elephants and hippos cooling themselves down in the river. Other highlights were fish eagles, a very rare puku (large antelope), kudu and a puppy crocodile. After tea we showered and then went to bed, Africa is really tiring!! Feb 28th – Kasane to Maun We had a huge 650km drive

Entry from: Okovango Delta, Botswana Entry Title: “Okovango Delta” Entry: “After a long drive from Chobe we arrived in Maun at a nice campsite with good bar facilities. Maud had seem to come down with a bad flu….another malaria victim ? So after setting up the tent she hit the sack and I set about trying to restore Tim’s MP3 player with some tunes after it’s hard drive had given up the ghost a few days back. After a weird meal of what was supposed to be chicken kebabs but ended up being a stir fry (tasty nonetheless) it was a reasonably early night for all in preparation for the Okavango Delta the next morning. That is everyone bar myself, Mincer and Tim who had a few more drinks at the bar and watched Julius get steaming drunk as he had a couple of days off as he wasn’t coming to the Delta with us…fair play to the guy seeing as he had been driving about 800km a day for the last two days. After a bit of a rough start to the morning and Helen making the decision that she wouldn’t be well enough to go to the delta, we sorted her out with a cabin for the next two days while I packed a day sack and headed of on a truck. It was sleeping bags on the open sided truck again as it was absolutely freezing, the locals must have had a laugh at all of us driving along sitting side by side in sleeping bags
