French Camp Near Tom’s Place, CA June 12, 2009

This was site number 44 at French Camp which is less than a mile from Tom’s Place, CA. Tom’s Place is about 25 miles and 25 minutes from Bishop and is at about 7500 feet. This was along the 395 corridor with easy access to Convict Lake, Mammoth and Bodie. The weather was somewhat cold but not too cold. A jacket and sweatshirt did the trick. There was rain, but not enough to put on our raincoats. In the tent we each had our sleeping bags but also a wool blanket for beneath us and an old comforter for on top. We didn’t get too cold at night. It did rain a bit our last night so that we had to put the tent and tarps on the patio to dry when we got home. Note the bear bin in front of the picnic table. We needed to keep all of our food and utensils in the bear bin. It was actually convenient. We saw no bears, though.
