Entry from: Cinque Terre, Italy Entry Title: “Gee, Not Too Many People Hiking the Trail” Entry: “OK, 05:00 didn’t come as early as we thought. Had a great night’s sleep and knew full well we could sleep on the train to Cinque Terre. That we did. Arrived at La Spezia (or so we thought) and tried to get off the train, but couldn’t get the damn door open. Well we laughed our **** off and Gwen basically said “well there’s a reason for everything”. We completely agreed! Good thing we didn’t get off cause our stop was actually the next one — hah! Had an hour before the next train to Monterossa to start the trek back. This place is just gorgeous and the sea was pretty rough with the waves crashing with envy. The path was super easy to start, then proceeded to get a bit tougher, then it was all uphill (or so it seemed). We noticed there wasn’t a lot of people (hardly any really) and continued to take in the view. We were walking up the side of the mountain (or really friggin big hill) and the path got more narrow and we were met by 100′s of really steep stairs built right into the mountain side. There were tons of little crops along the way, limes, lemons, grapes, olives and leafy produce. The views were spectacular. After about 30-45 minutes into the trek we noticed a sign that said “ticket will be validated

Entry from: Cinque Terre, Italy Entry Title: “Viva Italia! (Jen)” Entry: “The rest of our stay in Nice was delightful. The kids asked each day to go to the beach. They loved playing with the rocks and jumping in the waves. Evan was naked and the girls and Doug in their underwear (who knew it was going to be so warm and we didn’t pack bathing suits). There was a bunch of Japanese tourists that loved this and were taking pictures of the naked and partially naked Klein kids. I think they thought these were French kids frolicking in the Riviera. Doug attended the last day of my conference- as it seemed more medical-based that day- and I tend to be conferenced out after 2 days- especially in a different language. He just took my nametag, crossed off my name and put in his- tres facile. The conferences in Europe have high quality espressos, coffees and pastries at all the booths during break time- which makes break time a pleasure and a giant smorgasbord. We visited the Matisse museum, where at the end of the museum, they had a wall for everyone to put up their own designs. The kids drew their own pictures and we were interviewed on French television about what we thought of this interactive activity. The girls were inspired so much so that they pleaded to go straight home and do some of their own
