Video by Saptarshi Pal, from India ESE (Environment, Social and Economic) Business Model The Essay Competition 2009 invited youth to share ideas on: How does climate change affect you? How can you tackle climate change through youth-led solutions? More information at www.essaycompetition.org Non-biodegrable plastic bags have not spared villages too. Plastic bags are dumped for landfill, which fly into the nearby farms and pollute the soil To solve this problem, a young entrepreneur started a plastic waste recycling unit next to the dumping ground. The unit takes in plastic bags/bottles as inputs and recycles it into plastic granules. The plastic granules are utilized by various industries to make plastic products; it is similar to the virgin ones, produced by petrochemical companies, but a lot cheaper. This is what a sustainable business model should be like recycles plastic (environment), generates employment (social) and is profitable (economic) to run! The young entrepreneur who started this enterprise is a member of an association of young green entrepreneurs, who have similar enterprises. Through this alliance such young people network and assist each other. They also train budding green entrepreneurs, like me, to develop our ideas and provide financial back up. We want to inspire people to adopt low carbon business models to offset the pollution in developing countries!
