09 Chevy Malibu vs 59 Chevy Bel Air crash test

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, an insurer-supported research group, brought the two together to demonstrate in dramatic fashion the improvements in car safety since its 1959 founding. The offset collision test pits two vehicles at 40 mph. The driver in the Bel Air, its engineers concluded, would be in sorry shape. The car lacked seat belts, let alone air bags, allowing the driver to strike the unforgiving steering column, unpadded dashboard and roof. The passenger compartment collapsed, crushing the crash dummy’s legs. The seat was torn from the floor. The windshield popped out and the doors opened, possibly allowing the driver to be ejected. On the other hand, the driver of the Malibu might have sustained an injury to his left foot, analysis of test data showed, but otherwise emerged unscathed. Contrary to Internet suspicions, the IIHS assures us that the antique Chevy wasn’t a ringer: There is indeed an engine in the car, and the red cloud of dust that shows during the slow-motion replays isn’t rust, merely 50 years of road grime.

Car Crash :P

Just crusing about today.. i wasnt even speeding I was putting breaks on cos there was a turn… but the wheels just locked up. I lifted of the brakes.. and applied it again, was still locked up. (my car dont have Anti-locking Braking System u see) I tried steering both ways.. nowt happend i was just heading straight.. Hit a tree air bags exploded.. nearly fliped over, car was spun round… Front of the car is just all mashed up. Its in a scrap yard right now like :| 2 fire crews came.. i was in the ambulance for ages.. my arms got a massive red mark from the air bags Police breathalised me and that… i might even get done for dangerous driving .. just cos i came off the road :| My hand still smells of the airbags gunpowder thing

The main killer in collisions is called CRASH PULSE. There are 3 actual collisions in a crash: 1. the impact of your vehicle with the other object 2. the impact of your body with the insides of your vehicle 3. the impact of your body’s internal organs with your body’s skeletal bones In a parachute jump gone awry, your body itself is the “vehicle” and the internal organs impact is the next collision. This video shows that the human body can withstand the sudden stop deceleration “crash pulse” of up to 35x the weight of gravity (G) if the time of this impulse were kept short.
